Managing Passenger Handling at Airport Terminals
نویسندگان
چکیده
An efficient handling of passengers is essential for reliable terminal processes. Since the entire progress of terminal handling depends on the individual behavior of the passengers, a valid and calibrated agent-based model allows for a detailed evaluation of system performance and for identifying optimization capabilities. Our model is based on a stochastic approach for passenger movements including the capability of individual tactical decision making and route choice, and on stochastic model of handling processes. Each component of the model was calibrated with a comprehensive, scientifically reliable empirical data set; a virtual terminal environment was developed and real airport conditions were evaluated. Our detailed stochastic modeling approach points out the need for a significant change of the common flow-oriented design methods to illuminate the still undiscovered terminal black box. an Optimum Resource Allocation Model for Airport Passenger Terminals (RESEARCH NOTE)
According to the current Airport planning and design practices, for a given demand level there is a corresponding space requirement. While in practice, there are always trade-offs between cost and levels of service, labor and automation, equipment and fixed facilities, and expansion of existing facilities and the addition of new ones. In this research, the airport passenger Terminal Building (P...

We introduce the Enhanced-SLAM, an analytical aggregate model for estimating capacity and delays in airport passenger terminals which may consider also the Baggage Handling System operations. The model, integrated in the OPAL platform, was tested on the new Athens International Airport terminal.
متن کاملPassenger Terminal Design
The standard procedures for sizing the spaces for passenger activities in airport terminals are unsatisfactory in that they easily lead to expensive errors. The essential difficulty lies in the nature of the process, and in particular with the several formulas which specify the area per passenger in different parts of the building. The process and these formulas are insensitive both to the vari...
متن کاملModelling of Ground Handling Operations at Airport
In aviation, aircraft ground handling defines the servicing of an aircraft while it is on the ground and (usually ) parked at a terminal gate of an airport. Ground handling operations include many activities: passenger handling, ground transport, assistance in blocking the aircraft and delivery of required equipment, loading and unloading of the aircraft, including provision and operation of re...
متن کاملAPACHE A Constraint Based, Automated Stand Allocation System
In this paper we describe APACHE (Airport Parking Assignment in a Constrain[ Handling Environment), an automated stand allocation system for large airports with several terminals. Different types of constraints, e.g. parking restrictions, safety/security requirements, preferred terminals ind resource allocation for ground movements can be combined and are taken automatically into account. Const...
